Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County provides responsible families in need, the life changing opportunity to purchase their own home. Through the cooperative efforts of volunteers, partner families, donors, and staff, Habitat for Humanity reaches out from its Christian roots to build decent, affordable homes and communities in which people can live and grow.

We are a local organization in La Plata County that provides affordable homeownership opportunities to low income families whom do not qualify for conventional mortgages and are typically directed toward rental situations. We believe that homeownership is superior to renting and is a vital step in breaking the cycle of poverty while contributing to both family and community well being.

As an ecumenical Christian organization, Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County is dedicated to local-affordable housing. We work in partnership with businesses, civic organizations, faith communities, schools, government entities and community members like you!

Volunteer efforts and our partner families "sweat equity" build simple-decent homes with no-interest mortgages... allowing the homes to be affordable for the life of the mortgage.  

Since our establishment in 1994, we've built 30 homes which have directly impacted over 74 community members.  Construction will begin on another duplex in Bayfield this spring.
